USILA All-American and Major League Lacrosse Champion Doc Schneider was named an assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of Massachusetts by head coach Greg Cannella on Jan. 8, 2010. Schneider was a decorated goalie during his four-year career with the Minutemen and enters his fifth season as an assistant in 2013-14. "We are thrilled that Doc is a part of our staff," said Cannella. "Doc is a UMass guy through and through. He had an unbelievable playing career here and we know that will translate into success as a coach. Doc is a great leader and very passionate person. He worked with us as a volunteer coach in the fall and really did a great job working with the goalies and the defense." As an assistant coach, Schneider is responsible for directing the defense and goalie unit. Through Schneider's tutelage, three-year starting goalie Tim McCormack developed into a USILA All-American and First Team All-New England selection in 2012. Schneider simultaneously coached the Minutemen defense, including the man-down unit, which featured All-America selections Jake Smith (2012-13), Tom Celentani (2012) and Diogo Godoi (2010). Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Schneider was the highest drafted goalie in Major League Lacrosse during 2009, eventually helping the Toronto Nationals win the MLL Championship alongside former Minuteman Jeff Zywicki. In the championship game, Schneider backstopped the Nationals with 12 saves after picking up the semifinal victory over Long Island.
