Coach Recruiting Interview

What advice do you have for players interested in Division III schools?

There is a school out there for everyone. Find the school and lacrosse program that is the best fit for you personally. You should not pick your school based solely on a sport. However, being DIII athlete still requires a tremendous amount of time and effort, so make sure where you are going is right for you on all levels.

What is the best way for players to get on your recruiting radar?

The best way to get noticed by our coaching staff is to reach out to us. If a student-athlete is interested in my program, I will undoubtedly make the effort to get to know more about them and go watch them play. Filling out a Prospective Athlete Form on our website or emailing me directly shows that you have genuine interest in being a part of our program.

What type of players do you look for and where?

The type of players that I look for are the ones that will bring the right attitude and effort daily. Skills can be developed but a strong work ethic is something you either have or don’t have. The majority of our students come from NY State, but we attend showcases all over the East Coast and as far West as Illinois.

What areas of player development would you recommend players focus on to elevate their game?

I’d love for players to really work on developing both hands. Far too many players don’t try to improve their off-hand and it will catch up to you when you reach the college level, no matter what division you go.

How has the accelerated recruiting landscape impacted your approach to recruiting?

We have more of an old school approach to recruiting. So many things change for a kid between ages 14-18, so we like to hold back and wait until they’ve matured a bit more and might be better prepared about where they would like to attend.

Are there any last pieces of advice for players and families you'd like to share?

My advice would be to reach out to coaches and programs that interest you. Get a good feel for who the coaches are and what the program is all about. As intimidating as it can be to think about talking to a college coach, it all comes down to the student-athlete and where they want to go, so it is important for them to make a well-informed decision.
