Matthew Hayden

Matt Hayden is in his second season on the sidelines at CNU after capping off a record-setting four-year career as the Captains' goalkeeper.

During his first season on the staff, he helped Christopher Newport register a program-best 15-5 record while advancing to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Along the way, the squad climbed as high as 15th in the USILA National Coaches Poll and established a new single-season program record with an 8.40 goals-against-average.

Prior to joining the staff, Hayden established new program records with 44 victories and 635 career saves from 2014-17. In addition to his record-setting efforts, he also finished his career ranked second on the school's all-time charts with a .546 save percentage and an 8.99 goals-against-average.

Capping off his career with the most decorated campaign in program history, Hayden was named the VaSID All-State Men's Lacrosse Player of the Year in 2017 while securing first-team All-Conference, All-State, and All-Region accolades. He also picked up honorable mention All-American nods and became the first Captain to compete in the USILA North-South Senior All-Star Game.
