Richard Aberle comes to Union College after serving for two years as the assistant coach at Green Mountain College.

A 2015 graduate of Green Mountain, he was a starting attackman and the Eagles’ leading scorer.

During his NCAA career, Aberle was a four-year starter, led his teams in scoring three times, and was team captain for two seasons. In his senior season, Aberle had a hand (either the goal or assist) in 63% of the team’s scores and led the Eagles to the first post-season appearance in the program’s history. In the 9-8 victory over conference rival Thomas College that ultimately secured their conference tournament berth, Aberle scored six goals and two assists, including the game winning goal with one-minute to play. That season, he also led the North Atlantic Conference in man-up goals. Originally recruited at Bard College, Aberle was named Bard College’s freshman male athlete of the year. Before beginning his intercollegiate career, Aberle was two-year starting attackman and co-captain at Northwood School. In addition to lacrosse, Aberle was also a member of the alpine ski team at the boarding prep school in Lake Placid, New York.

In addition to coaching at Green Mountain, Aberle has extensive coaching experience on the summer camp circuit. He served as a coach and counselor for seven years at Dom Starsia’s camps at the University of Virginia. He also coached at camps at Princeton, Brown, Hobart, and the United States Military Academy. Aberle has his bachelor’s degree in philosophy and history and lives in Troy, NY.
